Microsoft Clarity and Moonlit Tools
Moonlit Tools reads aggregate behavior from Microsoft Clarity's Data Export API, such as rage clicks, dead clicks, quick backs, script errors and scroll depth, split by page and device. You paste a token that a Clarity project admin creates. Clarity data is shown as observations next to findings and never changes your scores.
What Moonlit Tools Reads
- Behavior signals: rage clicks, dead clicks, excessive scrolling, quick backs, script errors, engagement time and scroll depth, when Clarity returns them.
- Split by page and device, for the last three days, which is the longest window Clarity's export allows.
- Daily history: at most one extra one-day export per day, so page-level history builds up over time.
Moonlit Tools does not read session recordings or heatmaps.
Permissions Moonlit Tools Needs
- A Clarity Data Export API token. A project admin creates it in Clarity under Settings, then Data Export.
- Clarity has no sign-in flow for this API, so Moonlit Tools asks for the token instead. It is checked with one request, encrypted, and never shown again.
- Clarity allows 10 export requests per project per day. Moonlit Tools uses one when you connect and one each time you refresh, plus the daily history request.
What Moonlit Tools Uses It For
- Context on findings: a page with rage clicks or quick backs next to a slow-loading or broken-link finding.
- Sources page: the friction signals for each page and device, labeled as Clarity data with its date range.
Clarity numbers are observations. They do not change Website Health, recommendation confidence or Quick Wins.
