Bing Webmaster Tools and Moonlit Tools

What Moonlit Tools Reads

• Pages with inbound links: your pages that Bing has found links to, with how many links each has.
• Linking pages and link text for your eight most-linked pages.
• Page status: Moonlit Tools itself checks whether your 25 most-linked pages still load, through the same public-address guard its crawler uses.

The links come from Bing's index. Google and other link tools find different links, and every screen says so.

Permissions Moonlit Tools Needs

• A Bing Webmaster Tools API key. Bing gives one key per user, under Settings, then API Access.
• The website must be verified in Bing Webmaster Tools. Importing from Google Search Console verifies sites quickly.
• The key is sent only from Moonlit Tools' server, encrypted when saved and never shown again. Disconnecting deletes the connection and its history.

What Moonlit Tools Uses It For

• Links Bing has found: totals, most-linked pages, link text samples, and links gained or lost since the last sync, on the Sources page.
• Link opportunities: a page other sites link to that now returns 404 or 410 becomes a redirect suggestion, so those links point somewhere useful again.

How to Connect

1. Verify the website in Bing Webmaster Tools.
2. In Bing, open Settings, then API Access, and generate an API key.
3. In Moonlit Tools, open Settings, choose the website and paste the key under Bing Webmaster Tools, then choose Connect Bing Webmaster Tools.
4. Moonlit Tools finds the verified site, reads the links and saves the first snapshot. It refreshes once a day at most, before a scan.
